An important part of supporting a child’s play is identifying opportune moments during child-initiated play to extend and support the child’s learning.
When babies show sustained attention and widening eyes or facial expressions, this indicates that they are intensely interested in a specific object or task. Caregivers can share in this experience by mimicking their play or providing related objects and experiences that build on the babies' interest.
