Approaches to Learning
Promoting Persistence
WiseTip: AL-PER-M1626-E01A

Provide objects and materials that make interesting sounds or actions, or that can be used in multiple ways, for your toddler to explore and play with independently, such as boxes and blocks.

WHY IT MATTERS

At the young toddler stage of development, persistence is seen by the process the child engages in to discover how to accomplish the goal, instead of by the end result.

Children at this stage will engage spontaneously with multi-sensory items that invite exploration through multiple senses. Persistence develops when the child can independently explore the materials and solve problems relating to completing or mastering the skills needed to manipulate the objects.
