Place interesting objects and toys within your baby's reach. This provides opportunities for your baby to look, pat, hit or swipe at the items.
Pre-reaching takes place when newborns (usually from birth to 3 months) make poorly coordinated swipes toward an object in front of them. This is due to the lack of muscular control and visual acuity, which means the ability to see fine details.
Environments should be designed so that infants are exposed to a variety of developmentally appropriate activities that will encourage their achievement of motor competency.
