Always observe your baby’s different types of cries and respond appropriately depending on whether they are hungry (needs feeding), tired (needs to sleep) or uncomfortable (needs change of diaper, is teething or has a tummyache).
The caregiver can continue to strengthen attachments by being more intentional in providing skin-to-skin contact. For example, holding the baby in your arms instead of propping them on the sofa, sharing gazes and smiles and interacting with the baby in a soothing voice.
Tuning in to the uniqueness of a child's individuality during diapering by responding with sensitivity and encouragement in an unhurried manner sends a powerful message to children about their bodily functions.
